Roosevelt Island first stop
As we approached Queens from Manhattan via the Tram the view was amazing. This was a first on the Tram even though I saw it go across the East River many times. First stop Roosevelt Island once used as a place for the diseased, mentally ill and criminals.
In 1971 the island was named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt who gave the Four Freedom Speech in 1941. The island is in the East River were you have views of Queens and Manhattan. An architect Louis Kahn was asked to design the park but unfortunally he passed away. Although Kahn passed away his last work for the park was carried out by other architects.A quote from the Four Freedoms Speech is part of the monument within the park.

There is a abandoned building that was a smallpox hospital and later as a hospital training school. The building was a little creepy looking but it is part of history and a good place to film a horror movie.HAHA!
The Four Freedom Park has beautiful views on both sides of the island and I am glad to have had the chance to visit. http://www.fdrfourfreedomspark.org
Next stop Lunch
Indian food was the choice for the day and I thank Meagan for talking me into it. I have never had Indian food and I must say it wasn't bad. I had some spicy chicken with a salad and rice. That may not be a big deal to some but I don't try new things so it was for me!
Kaufman Museum of the moving image http://www.movingimage.us/visit/astoria this was a great place never heard of it. Today we meant Jordan Smith who informed us on some history of the museum such as celebrating its 25yr anniversary this week and thanks to Gerorge Kaufman the museum made a come back from waste land to a successful production studio and has made many movies and TV shows such as Nurse Jackie, The Wiz, and Men in Black.
I loved the horror section due to the fact l have watched every scary movie made. I remember my mother told me when she saw this movie "The Exorcist" she came home that night checked on us kids. I had my window open and it was cold in my room, she went to close it, looked at me and ran out of the room. A scene in the movie had Linda Blair's room very cold and my room reminded her of that scene.
After our first class this is how i felt. JUST KIDDING!!!
The picture below also reminds me of my childhood, not only did I own a lunch box like these, I loved the Fat Albert cartoon. OOPS now my age is showing!!!

Long Island City
The 5 points which is planned to be torn down is a building were artist come to paint. Today we meant Swig and Stress two local paint artists. Swig stated he loves painting and even though his art work is not there for long, he still enjoys it. We asked Swig "how do you feel knowing someone will paint over your work in a day or two and he said " nothing last forever". It is a shame the building will be gone soon because even though the art work is called graffiti is shows a lot of talent and beauty.
We ended our first Gotham experience in Long Island City by the East River were ships would deliver supplies to the railroad cars for transportation of these goods to Long Island. This picture represents the beginning of Long Island.
